C-pop has been undergoing a lot of changes in recent years, with the focus switching to more RnB and hip-hop vibes.

The latest group to be getting hyped is 7SENSES, and as they steadily climb the charts and begin to get international attention, you'll want to know all about them.

For those new to 7SENSES, here's a beginner's guide to what they're all about.

They're a sub-unit of another Chinese girl group

7SENSES is made up of seven members from the girl group SNH48, and is the first global unit. Made up of Zhao Yue (Akira), Kong Xiaoyin (Bee), Dai Meng (Diamond), Xu Yang Yuzhuo (Eliwa), Xu Jiaqi (Kiki), Chen Lin (Lynn) and Zhang Yuge (Tako), the girls present a cooler, more hip-hop style compared to their main group.

SNH48 is actually AKB48's Chinese sister group formed in 2012. They have over 100 members and several sub-units, along with Chinese sister groups like BEJ48 (Beijing), GNZ48 (Guangzhou), SHY48 (Shenyang) and CKG48 (Chongqing). SNH48 became independent of AKB48 as of mid-2016.

They were trained in a new way

Unlike most Chinese girl groups, 7SENSES were trained by both an international team of professionals and underwent additional training in South Korea, so they could learn about the Korean idol system.

Each member corresponds with a sense

Fitting with their group names, the members are aligned with different senses. Akira is taste, Bee is hearing, Diamond is touch, Eliwa is time, Kiki is smell, Lynn is sight and Tako is soul.

They debuted in 2017

Their debut song was "Girl Crush", released in April 2017. They've won a few awards since then, including the Global Entertainer Award at the Soribada Best K-Music Awards in 2018.

They documented their Korean training experience in a reality show

Their first reality program called Lucky Seven Baby began airing in May 2017, and showed their experiences moving to South Korea to be trained in the K-pop way. If you want to get to know the girls better, this is a great place to start.

They're getting a lot of attention for their choreography, charisma and singing in both Mandarin and English. So are you a new fan of 7SENSES?
