The idol read a letter announcing it at the group's final concert

NGT48 member Maho Yamaguchi has announced she will be graduating from the J-pop girl group.

The Vice-Captain of Team G, Yamaguchi made the announcement at the group's final concert on April 21. NGT48 will be dissolved and reformed with a new line-up.

Yamaguchi was the victim of an assault in December 2018, when she was attacked by two men outside her apartment. She spoke out about it in a livestream, saying she believed the assault had been orchestrated by a fellow group member. She was forced to apologise by management at a performance later on, and NGT48's management have been heavily criticised for their handling of the situation.

At the concert over the weekend, Yamaguchi read a letter she'd written, in which she mentioned her love for being an idol and how she had hoped her actions would improve the lives of idols. In it she said: "I do not know of anything that is more important than human life. I sincerely hope that everyday will be a day when your treasured friends can be an idol safely".

You can read a full translation of her letter below.

Two other Team G members, Rena Hasegawa and Riko Sugahara will also be graduating from the group. They will graduate from NGT48 officially with a theatre performance on May 18.
