Girls' Generation's Taeyeon spoke out about her struggles with depression while answering questions from fans via her Instagram stories.

At first she answered questions simply, like when someone asked "Are you doing well?" and she responded with "no" or when asked how she gets over a slump and she said, "I'm not good at getting over it, so i just live in a slump".

Her answers caused some people to respond harshly, claiming she was being disrespectful. One person wrote, "Now that you're 30, please grow up" and she responded with, "30s or 40s, it's all the same"

At one point, someone wrote a message saying, "Is this bipolar disorder? Tsk tsk", to which Taeyeon gave a succinct reply, stating:

"No, I am suffering from depression. I am working hard to get better through treatment with antidepressants. Whether it's depression or bipolar disorder, please don't tsk and treat people disrespectfully. They are all patients who are suffering".

Her honesty encouraged many messages from fans sharing their own mental health experiences, expressing how Taeyeon brings them strength and comfort. Taeyeon mentioned that she chose to interact via Instagram stories because she wanted to pep herself up and that she felt nourished by talking to her fans.
