It's been another huge year for K-dramas, with so many storylines that twisted our hearts in new and unexpected ways.
While there's lots of famous faces we're always happy to see in K-dramas, there's a new era of male lead coming to the K-drama world and it's packed full of talented actors who've made us laugh, cry and have small heart attacks thanks to their performances.
Whether they're idols diving into the acting world, previous sidekicks turned male leads or something else entirely, we've fallen deeply for these five actors and we think you will too by the time you're done watching these dramas!
1. Cha Eunwoo in 'Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung'
Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung isn't Cha Eunwoo's first lead role (he already got our hearts racing in My ID is Gangnam Beauty), but it's his first historical drama and he really shines as the naive and kind-hearted prince who moonlights as a romance novelist.
2. Ahn Hyoseop in 'Abyss'
There's been so much buzz around Ahn Hyoseop since his second-lead role in Still 17 and his part in YouTube's Top Management. In this year's Abyss, he held his own alongside K-drama fave Park Bo Young, playing both dramatic and comedic perfectly as the frumpy guy who's reborn attractive and has the power to revive others.
3. Park Jinyoung in 'He is Psychometric'
You probably know him better as a member of GOT7, but Jinyoung has been honing his acting skills since debut too. He is Psychometric gave him his first lead role in a mainstream drama, and he shone as a guy with deep traumas but brimming with love and humour, who has the special power to read people's and objects' pasts through touch.
4. Song Kang in 'Love Alarm'
Song Kang is familiar to some Inkigayo fans as a former host, and Love Alarm marked his first lead in a drama. He was both handsome and enigmatic as the high schooler who everyone wants yet no one can get, and his performance almost makes you forget the morally questionable thing he does to his best friend that sets off the drama's chain of events.
5. Rowoon in 'Extraordinary You'
Another idol male lead, this time SF9's Rowoon. Last year, SF9's Chani became all the talk for his devastating Sky Castle performance, and this year it's Rowoon's dashing aura that's won the hearts of Extraordinary You viewers. His chemistry with the lead is undeniable, and his casting couldn't be more fitting as the boy fresh out of a comic book... who knows he's in a comic book.
Who's been your fave new male lead this year?
