JYP Entertainment founder Jin Young Park is being criticised by viewers after he criticised a teenage contestant's weight on music survival show Nizi Project.
The program, created by JYP Entertainment to form a Japanese girl group, is being aired episodically on YouTube, showcasing auditions from Japanese trainee hopefuls. In a recent episode, 17-year-old contestant Ikematsu Riria was subjected to Park criticising her weight.
In the episode he says: "First I'll talk about your dancing. I've been a singer for 25 years. Do you know what the hardest part for me was? Weight management. Body weight has a direct impact on dancing. When you were dancing, your body was very heavy and slow. You need to dance more nimbly and quickly."
The subtitles during the episode also showed the sentence, "Pointing out her lack of self-care".
He went on to say, "It doesn't look like you want to improve your dancing, because you haven't controlled your weight and practiced every day."
Viewers have expressed their anger with the criticism online, pointing out that this isn't the first time JYP has pressured female idols to lose weight, with some mentioning TWICE's pre-debut struggles which the girl group has openly discussed in the past.
