There's a new K-drama about to hit our screens and you're going to want to be in on this one from the first episode! The King: Eternal Monarch has been getting hype since the cast was announced, and with good reason: we'll be seeing Lee Minho in the male lead role, with Kim Goeun as the female lead.
It's been a while since we've seen either in a drama, so we're preparing our hearts for the emotional turmoil to come.
Here's four reasons we can't wait for The King: Eternal Monarch.
1. The cast
Lee Minho's last lead K-drama role was back in 2016 with Legend of the Blue Sea, so this drama will be his first back since military service. Meanwhile Kim Goeun has been busy with films since 2017's Goblin, so we'll see two of Korea's best drama actors back on our screens weekly!
We're also intrigued to see how rising fave Woo Dohwan factors into the story. With so many talented people involved, we're expecting this drama to blow us away.
2. From the writer of many devastating K-dramas
Remember how you sobbed for a week after watching Goblin? Or how your heart beat faster thanks to the tension of Mr Sunshine? You can thank veteran K-drama writer Kim Eunsook, who's behind dramas such as Secret Garden, The Heirs and Descendants of the Sun.
We're expecting full emotional turmoil, and we will have tissues ready for our tears!
3. History meets fantasy and more
Parallel universe? Check. Korean emperor in a new timeline? Check. Demons vs humans? Sure, yes. The King: Eternal Monarch combines two timelines, giving us a taste of past and present (we can only hope that's double the Lee Minho for us).
Lee Minho plays a Korean emperor who's trying to close the doors between worlds which were opened by demons brought forth by a deity living in the human world. Kim Go Eun is the detective who tries to protect people, and naturally, there'll be some devastating realm-defying love too.
4. Streaming weekly in Australia
Netflix is streaming the episodes right after they air in South Korea, so you won't even need to worry about spoilers! Check out the trailer below and tell us if you're excited for this new K-drama too.
