Yuya Tegoshi has left J-pop group NEWS and his agency Johnny & Associates.

Tegoshi was placed on temporary suspension from promotions on May 26 after a Japanese tabloid revealed the artist had attended a drinking party while strict COVID-19 restrictions were in place, with citizens in Japan advised to avoid gathering in large groups.

It was announced on June 20 that the idol's contract has been cancelled and that he is no longer a member of NEWS.

Tegoshi debuted with NEWS in 2003, and has also debuted in the duo Tegomass with fellow NEWS member Takahisa Masuda. NEWS will continue making music as a trio from now on.
