Dan tells the story of the Grand Union Canal, which runs up the spine of the country. Constructed at the height of the Industrial Revolution, it runs 152 miles in length, making it the longest manmade waterway in the country. An amalgamation of 7 other canals, its story starts over 200 years ago. Industry in Birmingham was booming and the industrialists needed an efficient way to transport goods to and from London.
