The second trailer for the Tom Hooper-helmed biopic The Danish Girl was released at the weekend, giving us another glimpse at British actor Eddie Redmayne's widely-praised performance as Danish painter Lili Elbe.

Born Einer Wegener, Lili Elbe was one of the first recipients of gender reassignment surgery. The film is a fictional account of her relationship with wife, Gerda Wegener, and is based on a book by the same name, written by American writer David Ebershoff.

The film has been warmly received on the film festival circuit, most recently at the Toronto International Film Festival, with plenty of Oscar buzz associated with Redmayne's performance.

The Danish Girl is due for release in Australia on Boxing Day.
