Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) will star in a new BBC spy drama featuring a same-sex relationship at the centre of its plot.

London Spy, a co-production between BBC America and BBC Two, is described as the story of a "chance romance between two people from very different worlds, one from the headquarters of the Secret Intelligence Service, the other from a world of clubbing and youthful excess".

The five-part series has been created by author Tom Rob Smith and also stars Academy Award-winner Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling. It is directed by Jakob Verbruggen (The Fall and the US version of The Bridge).

Whishaw, who is married to Australian composer Mark Bradshaw, will play Danny, who falls for the anti-social and enigmatic Alex (Edward Holcroft). When Alex is found dead, Danny is thrown into the world of British espionage.

It's set for release later this year. Check out the trailer below.
