We did 17 aircraft flights on this journey - maybe 20,000 kilometres, so a lot of the journey was from high above. Mostly we flew commercial, Qantas and Virgin, back and forth across Australia, but there were also half a dozen small charter flights.
These arial photos are all from my window seat, through the thick plastic windows - scratched and etched by the elements.
Still, while others watched movies with the blinds down, I looked down at this exquisite ancient land of ours.
Mostly these are flights from Sydney to Darwin or Broome, with a lot of big sky landscapes, with the most beautiful patterns and unbelievable colours.
These are just a selection of several hundred photographs which I took on our journey.
Three pictures are along the Northern Territory coast - Gove from Darwin. The rivers snake their way through marshy foreshores. Sand patterns drift and change as they slide into the Arafura Sea.
There are two late afternoon shots, flying into Kununurra, with the soft hills roaming across the grasslands towards us, like prehistoric creatures coming home to rest.
Otherwise this is Australia from above.
