The number of people fleeing war, conflict and persecution around the world has reached its highest figure on record, nearing 60 million.

The United Nations refugee agency says the number rose by 8 million just last year, the biggest jump ever in a single year.

At the forefront is the refugee crisis in Syria - and out of Syria.
