It's true. Season six will be the last for Vikings. Devastating news, to be sure.

However, there may be a silver lining. Creator Michael Hirst and the Vikings team are in talks with production studio, MGM Television about a possible spinoff, which would continue the saga. Reportedly, Die Hard and The Fugitive writer Jeb Stuart would come on board to work on the script with Hirst.

While shooting on season six has wrapped, the launch date has yet to be announced. At this stage, all we know is that it’ll be later this year.

In the meantime, it's important not to dwell on the negative. Enjoy season five, look forward to six and remember the good times.

Vikings airs on Thursday nights at 9.35pm on SBS. Missed the last episode? Watch it at SBS On Demand:
