The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Arts and Culture between the Government of Australia and the Government of the Republic of India was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia in November 2014.
SBS Hindi Radio interviewed Dr Vijay Kumar Mathur, who is an Art Historian/Museologist and Curator of Paintings at the National Museum in New Delhi.
Dr Mathur speaks about the significance of the exhibition and the exhibits themselves. He says the paintings depict various scenes from Ramayana, a Sanskrit epic poem ascribed to the Hindu sage and Sanskrit poet Valmiki. They represent 16 different schools of Regional Indian paintings.
