  1. Purpose: This consultation is being undertaken by SBS to enable the public to provide feedback on the draft language Selection Criteria.  SBS will take into account all views submitted as part of this process, however at the conclusion of the public consultation, the final language selection criteria will be determined by SBS. 

  1. Criteria: The criteria will be used, in conjunction with the 2021 Census data (when released), to determine which languages are provided by SBS Radio services. The way in which those services will be delivered will be determined in 2022 by SBS, taking into account changes in audience listening habits, the need to support audience demands for anytime, anywhere news and information via digital platforms and the changing demographics of Australia’s diverse communities. 

  1. Privacy and personal information: Your submission will not be made public without your permission and all submissions will be treated as confidential. Any personal information you supply to SBS as part of this process will only be used for the SBS Language Services Review, and for the purpose of communicating with you in relation to this project. Some of the information provided through your submission may include sensitive information (for example, information relating to your race or ethnicity) and by voluntarily providing any sensitive information to SBS, you consent to SBS collecting that information. Your submission will be held by SBS and by SBS’s technology provider who supplies our forms, Formstack. Formstack will only access submissions upon SBS’s request (for example, to assist with technical issues). SBS will not disclose your personal information to any other third parties, unless required or authorised to do so by law, or with your consent.  Please refer to the SBS Privacy Policy for more information on how SBS handles your personal information and how to contact SBS in relation to your personal information.  

  1. Reference number: You are invited to provide one response to the consultation. Online is the preferred method of providing feedback – using the form at However, we will accept written feedback via postal mail. Once SBS is in receipt of your response, you will be assigned a unique reference number.  

  1. Petitions: Where appropriate, you may include a petition with your submission. Submissions including a petition will be regarded as a single submission and will be considered in the same manner as all other submissions.
