kicking goals for sports comedy

This studio-based program pits some of Australia’s best-known sport stars, celebrities and comedians against each other in a series of fast paced rounds, featuring sports from Australia and around the world.  Not only do they get the chance to show off their inner sports nerd but also to give themselves, and us, a good laugh along the way.

The Squiz is an original format that is fun, cheeky and, at times, irreverent. It’s founded on Australian’s love of sport, its personalities and the dramas that go on, both on and off the field.  It is funny, but it’s also packed full of great sporting facts and information, not least the fascinating anecdotes and trackside stories from the sports stars themselves.

Created by Ambience Entertainment, The Squiz is hosted by comedian Anh Do and introduces two up and coming comedians - Amelia Jane Hunter and Jordon Raskopoulos (Thank God You’re Here, Good  News  Week, The Ronnie Johns Half Hour) as the opposing team captains.

Joining them during the series is an array of stars from the sporting world including swimmer Libby Trickett, footballer John Aloisi, cyclist Anna Meares, rugby league’s Wendell Sailor, Olympian Tamsyn Lewis, tennis player Alicia Molik, AFL’s Jude Bolton and Jason Akermanis, V8 driver Craig Lowndes and Olympic diver Matthew Mitcham.

Comedians and entertainers include Tommy Dean, Tahir Bilgic, Felicity Ward, George Kapiniaris, Anthony Field, Charli Delaney. Englishmen Stephen K Amos, Jeff Green, John Moloney and American Eddie Ifft.

The appeal of The Squiz lies in its pop culture approach to sport and the format mixes information with entertainment and throws in a few surprises for good measure.

The 13 episodes are recorded at The FOXTEL television Centre at North Ryde in Sydney.
