Pop singer and fashion/beauty entrepreneur Rihanna has ticked yet another item off her bucket list - winning her first fashion award for Fenty.
At the Fashion Awards in London yesterday, Rihanna was awarded the Urban Luxe Award by none other than Janet Jackson and Tyler The Creator. Other nominees for the award included Marine Serre, Martine Rose, Alyx and Moncler Genius.
According to Vogue, the prize was established by the British Fashion Council to celebrate contemporary labels that "elevate the concept of casual" fashion - and nobody has elevated casual fashion in recent years quite like Rihanna, whose astronomical success with Fenty has been credited with signalling the decline of the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show.
Accepting the award, Rihanna told the crowd: “Thank you so much for believing in me as a young black woman and my talent…"
She added: "Thank you for giving me this wonderful opportunity to prove what I love to do.”
Despite looking stunning in a mint green Fenty minidress with a transparent jacket, it was Rihanna's braided cornrows - which fell down her diamond-adorned back - that set Twitter abuzz.
"Rihanna with braids is a whole other type of level," one social media user wrote. "I love to see it."
Another tweeted: "I didn't know I needed Rihanna in Fulani Braids...but now I wonder how I survived wout (sic) it."
Rihanna's foray into fashion has been celebrated by many as a much-needed breath of fresh air - with Fenty tailored to the lived experiences of a diverse range of women.
“Some days I want to be submissive, many days I’m completely in charge and most days I feel like being both... so it was imperative that we created a line versatile enough to embrace and celebrate us in that way.”
