A couple from Florida have recreated a photo that they took of themselves at Pride 24 years ago - and people are loving it.
Nick Cardello and Kurt English have been together for 25 years, and took the following photo of themselves at the Washington DC Pride March in 1993.
The couple attended the march while visiting Washington DC again this year as part of celebrations for their 25th anniversary, and decided to recreate the photo in the same location on the National Mall.
After sharing the photo on his social media, the two photos were then tweeted by an account with the caption, "it's just a phase" - something often told to young LGBTQI+ people when coming out.
Their photos have now gone viral, and have been retweeted nearly 160,000 times.
Cardello and English began to receive calls from family members and friends saying they'd gone viral on nearly every single social media site. Cardello said at first they were surprised and "amused" by their sudden viral fame, but soon realised that what they thought was simply a sweet couple selfie actually stood for so much more, particularly to queer youth.
"We started reading the comments and were tuned into what it meant to people ... that was really touching," Cardello told BuzzFeed.
"[The LGBTQ+ youth] don't see many photos of gay couples getting old together. They're tagging their significant others, saying 'this could be us'. That was really cute."
