Ben Melzer will make history next month when the April edition of Germany's Men's Health magazine hits newsstands: he'll become the first trans man to appear on the cover of a fitness magazine in Europe.
Melzer, 27, won a national competition to find a cover model for the publication.
Born Yvonne, he began transitioning at the age of 23 and told German publication Bild that he hopes the magazine shoot helps other trans people.
"My inside and my outside finally fit and that's why I'm not at all ashamed to talk about it," Melzer said.
"If there is one person out there I can help, I will succeed."
In 2015, trans bodybuilder Aydian Dowling reached the top 5 in a similar competition to find a cover model for the US Men's Health magazine.
Although he didn't take out the top spot, he still made it onto the cover with his fellow top 5 nominees in a special collector's edition issue.
"Having a trans person on the cover would tell people that no matter who you are, you can be the man you want to be,” Dowling told the publication last year.
“It’s fully possible if you put the time and effort and balance it takes to find the man in you.”
