Bette Midler found herself being dragged to hell on Twitter over the weekend after tweeting the following, now-deleted tweet, which suggested that Caitlyn Jenner only transitioned to get her own spin-off show.

Twitter was wholeheartedly unimpressed, and quickly took her to task over the offensive tweet.

Sports Illustrated deadnaming Caitlyn Jenner is not cool
Sports Illustrated made history by putting Caitlyn Jenner on their cover. But by referring to her by her former name (deadname) they’re playing into bigoted notions of transgender people and invalidating their existence.

Earlier today, Bette deleted the inital tweet, and tweeted the following apology:

The tweet has garnered a mixed reaction. While some are ready to forgive and forget:

Here's why Caitlyn Jenner is sticking with the Republican party
"Just because I'm a woman now doesn't make me all of a sudden liberal."

Others found her apology to ring hollow:

This isn't the first time Bette has copped flack on Twitter for insulting a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Back in March, Twitter users criticised her for slut-shaming Kim Kardashian after she posted a censored nude selfie.
