Maori Tezuka, who made her start in the porn industry at 71, has called time on her career.

Despite enjoying her near decade-long stint in the industry, the former opera singer stated her decision came as a result of working with actors who failed to meet her expectations.

"I have no regrets, but shooting became difficult when the actor wasn't my type." Tezuka said to the Tokyo Reporter.

Tezuka discussed how she got involved in porn after becoming acquainted with someone who worked in producing 'JK' films (JK is an abbreviation of 'jukunen koreisha' i.e. mature elderly women)

“It all started after I got to know someone in AV production and they invited me to make an appearance,” the former actress said.

“It was lively and fun on the set – I mean it’s work after all; you just have to do your best when you’re in the spotlight."

Close to a quarter of Japan’s population is over the age of 65, with elderly porn booming in an otherwise stalling industry, accounting for a quarter of the $US20 billion ($26.1 billion) that the industry brings in on an annual basis, according to industry insiders.
