So, it would seem that actress Lucy Liu is the wearer of many hats.

Not only is she an actress, a director, a singer, and a UNICEF ambassador - she's an incredibly talented painter with a penchant for lesbian erotica.

That last detail isn't common knowledge - partly because Liu paints under her Chinese name, which is Yu Ling.

Needless to say, when queer social media users stumbled upon the news this week, Liu's large-scale oil paintings were promptly filed under 'things we didn't know we needed'.

I mean... just look at them.

While Liu's erotic expressionist paintings may come as a revelation to many of us, she's been exhibiting her work for decades.

According to Artsy, the multi-talented artist has been showing her paintings as part of both public and private exhibitions since 1993 - creating ink drawings, paintings, silkscreens, and collages from her New York studio.

“When that happens, it’s such an inspiration, and it’s such a significant moment,” she told Artsy of her practice.

“It spurs you to be somebody different or more than you are already. [It] spurs you to do something different.”

Just this year, Liu's 'Lost and Found' collection of sculptures - made up of repurposed goods she had found, we love a sustainable queen! - was exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore.
