Mardi Gras weekend is finally upon us, and we’re practicing our dance moves and putting the finishing touches on the SBS float.
Our theme this year is ‘Equality—It’s In Our Chemistry’. We’re exploring how love is all about chemistry regardless of race, gender, age or sexual orientation.
If you tune into the live stream or broadcast this year, you can check out our float complete with sexy scientists, giant rainbow test tubes and literally kilos of glitter. Our talented SBS dancers will sashay down Oxford Street, shimmying to ‘Chain Reaction’ by Diana Ross.
Here's a little look behind the scenes of the SBS Mardi Gras preparations!
Here are the hearts we'll be waving down Oxford Street. Glitzy AF!
Not pictured: My hand covered in glitter after I thought it would be a good idea to touch this.
On the night, these test tubes will be lit up, and we'll be cranking the smoke machines to serve y'all ~SCIENCE VIBES~!
And just look at all the different glitter options there are to choose from!
Let me tell you, the entire workshop is COVERED in glitter. It's still on my shoes, and I imagine this glitter will be with me forever, now.
Our diligent Mardi Gras workers, putting it all together
I imagine working around this much glitter can only be the best career possible, right???
Happy Mardi Gras, see you at the parade!
SBS will be streaming the 2017 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade live on Saturday, March 4 on SBS On Demand, and will then air our Mardi Gras special event - with commentary from our hosts, behind-the-scenes action and exclusive interviews - on Sunday March 5.
