The 'Stranger Things' and 'Riverdale' actress said she is still "very, very new to the LGBT community".

“It took me years to accept who I truly was,” says Baird, who is the mother of a 4-year-old son who she had with ex-husband—CSI:Miami actor Jonathan Togo.

“I tried to be what was expected of me, but I have reached the point where I don’t want to hide anymore.

“In all my relationships with men, I knew something was missing and I finally figured out what that something is…I am meant to be in a relationship with a woman.”

"I realised how important it is in this day and age to be visible; have people know who you are. When you are accomplishing incredible things and you are hiding who you are, you are hurting hundreds of millions of people.”

Baird is currently in a relationship with comedian Mav Viola and says they connected on the popular dating app, Bumble.

“I reached out and messaged her and asked her on a date, which was filmed for a documentary I’m working on with Nikki Weiss based on the book Sexual Fluidity by Lisa Diamond,” says Baird.

“It was the first time I ever asked someone out.

“We have been in a relationship for six months, and I know without a doubt she is my person.”

The full interview with Baird will be published on June 29.
