In light of last season’s successful Indigenous game, Round 18 will aim to recognise and acknowledge Indigenous culture and basketball across both Australia and New Zealand.

All games will include a Welcome to Country, amongst other integrations, with each team wearing unique uniforms designed by local Indigenous artists.

NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger hailed the league’s new initiative; highlighting its need to pay tribute to “the many others who’ve made such a huge contribution to the game here and around the world.”

“It’s important we recognise these key Indigenous figures in a meaningful and impactful way, while also acknowledging the contribution wider Indigenous communities have made to the game," Loeliger said.

“We will contribute proceeds from the sales of the Indigenous jerseys towards the development of young Indigenous players to ensure young male and females have a pathway to pursue their basketball dreams.”

The NBL will also work with its key stakeholders to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan to support the national reconciliation movement.

Melbourne United will host the first game of the round against defending champions Perth Wildcats on Wednesday January 29.
