A 90-year-old woman has proven you’re never too old to bring it after stepping out in a bikini. Grandmother and mother-of-ten Irene ditched her kaftan (and any insecurities) in favour of a 60’s style two-piece with high waisted bottoms while on a recent cruise with her family.
She had purchased the red and white polka dot print design after she was persuaded by staff at her aged care facility that a swimsuit was an essential travelling piece for her suitcase, and she hasn’t looked back since. The local Byron Bay store where Irene bought the bikini shared a stunning photo of her wearing it to their Facebook page where it garnered in excess of 2,000 likes and a plethora of empowering comments.
Of the mostly female users, one wrote, “Good for her, if our younger women could only feel this secure about their bodies.” Another added, “You go girl, you are rocking!” while a third felt inspired by the snap, saying, “Maybe my bikini days are not over. . . . she looks great!”
One even suggested the swimsuit brand should hire Irene as a face of their company, something the global fashion and beauty companies have been slowly gravitating towards recently.
Last year Celine drew international attention after they unveiled literary star and 80-year-old Joan Didion as one of the faces of their latest sunglasses campaign. Likewise 59-year-old grandmother Yazemeenah Rossi and 87-year-old Daphne Selfe continue to command a rewarding career in modelling.
