Anniesa Hasibuan has made her mark on 2016 New York Fashion Week in a very distinct way. The Indonesia-based designer has become the first to showcase a collection at the major fashion event with every single model wearing a hijab.
Not only is it another win for modest fashion, Hasibuan is the first Indonesian to show a collection at one of the official NYFW venues, Moynihan Station.
According to the Jakarta Post, the Indonesian capital and Hasibuan's hometown was a major influence for her collection, which featured flowing pants, elegant blouses, and silk jackets paired with quirky jewellery and sunglasses.
Hasibuan has been working hard to build her fashion empire since opening her first boutique in Kemang, Jakarta in 2015. "People sometimes think that I've just jumped straight into going to NYFW, but it was a process. It has been a long journey which I have taken step-by-step," she told the Jakarta Post.
With the collection, called De Jayakarta, Hasibuan, who always brings a small Indonesian flag to the runway, wanted to make her mark on the fashion world and put her home country on the map.
"I want to bring the Indonesian name to the fashion world, and use my clothes to introduce people to the different and diverse parts of Indonesia," she said.
Having presented her collection in New York, and travelled across Europe to show in Istanbul and London, it seems like she's well on her way to doing just that.
