Even though season one is yet to hit our screens, Awkwafina's Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens has been renewed for a second season.

The actress and comedian, who recently won a Golden Globe for her role in The Farewell, but was snubbed for an Oscars nomination, stars in the comedy series alongside BD Wong and SNL's Bowen Yang.

The series is loosely based on Awkwafina's life, following the story of Nora Lum and her cousin as they struggle with young adulthood in Flushing, N.Y., with some help from their family.

“What’s great about the show is that it takes existential questions and explores them in different ways through Nora’s lens,” series producer Lucia Aniello said on a recent panel for the show, reports Deadline. “People who love Broad City will love this as well.”

Co-star BD Wong, who plays Nora's father, said the show took strides in breaking down stereotypes of Asian American characters.

“A stereotype is a deeply ingrained image of a type of person that shouldn’t be embraced as true as opposed to negative images," he said.

“I have never heard of an Asian American character like [Nora]. She is fresh and out of the box.”
