Abby Wambach was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUIII) in Portland, Oregon on the weekend.
Wambach immediately took responsibility for her actions and apologised on Facebook.
On Tuesday, Wambach's attorney entered a not guilty plea for his client. This is standard procedure in Oregon where judges don't encourage immediately entering a guilty plea to ensure defendants have had ample time to go over their case with their lawyers. They encourage defendants to make an educated decision if and when they decide to enter a guilty plea. As a result, pleas often change.
Wambach is scheduled to attend court on the 26th April for this potential change of plea.
The 35-year-old was not in court yesterday as the judge allowed her to leave Oregon to attend a speaking engagement in Kentucky.
Wambach took to Twitter to address a backlash about her not guilty plea.
