More than 150 years ago, the Burke and Wills expedition, one of Australia's most renowned colonial tragedies, made a name for itself as ill-fated, but there was also success before the tragedy. On 20 August, 1860, 18 explorers with their 25 camels and 22 horses, set off from Melbourne as they marched forth into frontiers unknown on the Victorian Exploring Expedition (VEE).
