Several hundred people converged in the iconic Sydney Opera Houses Concert Hall to enjoy Brazil at the Harbour festivities.

The event celebrated not only Brazil's National Day in Sydney but also 70 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Australia, the Southern Hemispheres two largest economies.

Beatriz Wagner, executive producer for the Portuguese language program of SBS Radio, served as the evenings master of ceremonies, and the event kicked off with renditions of both the Australian and Brazilian national anthems.

Following the music, Wagner introduced speakers:

Ambassador Carlos de Abreu, Consul General of Brazil

Ambassador Rubem Barbosa, Ambassador of Brazil to Australia

Anthony Roberts, Minister of Industry, Resources and Energy

Julio de Laffitte, President of the Australia Brazil Business Council

Craig Foster, SBS presenter

His Excellency David Hurley, Governor of New South Wales

The party had a bossa nova show featuring the jazzy South American rhythms of Juliana Areias and her band, from Perth.
