Joan Winch - Joan Winch has always been strong-minded, and has stood up for herself from an early age, when she was the only Aboriginal girl in her school, picked on by the other students. Her father had moved the family to Fremantle to give his daughter and two sons an education, and in the process they lost most of their native language because they were only allowed to speak English. At thirteen it wasn't long before she suffered the loss of her mother, and spent her teenage years "like in a nightmare", drinking and feeling lost. At sixteen she ran away from her very strict father's house and took various jobs, including working as an assistant nurse in a psychiatric hospital. Gordon Syron, an Aboriginal artist met photographer Elaine Pelot-Kitchener nearly 30 years ago a few days after Gordon had been released from prison after serving a ten year term for killing his brother-in-law. They became good friends, and Elaine eventually became Gordon's agent. Set against the backdrop of their creative work this engaging, quirky couple speak directly to the camera as we accompany them on their journey from their home base on Magnetic Island, to Foster and to Wilcannia where they plan to marry. Without Elina Andrescu's diary, Judge Roban has trouble pinning down the man he suspects is responsible for her murder: Arnaud Laborde. However, Laborde is delighted when he finds out. He answers Roban's summons and mocks him during his questioning. Later Roban explains to Pierre Clément that the diary was stolen, most likely on Benoît Faye's orders. Meanwhile, Pierre Clément hears young Tony Simoès, who is worried about the fate of his brother Homère, a small-time criminal, who has probably fallen foul of his accomplices in a drug deal.
