The film aims to reveal the complex history of how children were instrumentalised during and after the war. The common thread is the odyssey of a group of Polish orphans who, at the end of hostilities, found themselves in a refugee camp in Tanzania. From their deportation to Siberia to their reception in Canada, their fate was determined by the shifting tides of the post-war era and the early days of the Cold War.
