Further improvements for SBS Radio

To ensure listeners across Australia can access high quality programming with a national focus, SBS Radio has shifted to a single Executive Producer model for each language program.

This streamlining is one of a number of initiatives that has occurred over the last 12 months to improve SBS Radio services. The shift to a single Executive Producer will also free up resources which will be reinvested into SBS Radio services.

These changes will improve coordination of programming between SBS Radio’s Sydney and Melbourne headquarters.

“Radio is evolving and we must develop with it if we want to continue to be at the cutting edge of program delivery. SBS Radio is unique and services varied communities,” SBS Director of Radio, Paula Masselos, said.

“This initiative also puts us in a better position to take advantage of new technology such as the shift to digital radio and online radio services. This will enable even greater levels of collaboration and communication between different centres in the future and allow SBS to service more listeners with great quality programming.”

Since its inception, SBS Radio has had operations in two centres and Ms Masselos reiterated SBS’s commitment to a continued presence in both Sydney and Melbourne.

“But it is important to remember that SBS has listeners right across Australia who enjoy our programming,” Ms Masselos said.

“This move will ensure that we are taking a national approach to our language programs rather than focusing on only two geographic areas. The shift to a single Executive Producer will ensure standards continue to rise at SBS Radio.

“SBS Radio is at the forefront of multilingual and multicultural broadcasting in Australia. We have ambitious plans for the future and have an ongoing commitment to enhancing social inclusion in Australia by delivering even more dynamic and professional radio services.”
