SBS Radio goes digital
3 August 2009 – SBS will launch its Digital Radio services on Thursday 6 August 2009 in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
SBS will be offering programs on nine digital radio channels – providing a simulcast and time shift of all of SBS Radio’s current analogue services.
As a result, listeners in Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane will now be able to hear all of SBS Radio’s programs for the first time – doubling the number of programs they can listen to every week. Listeners in these States will also be able to tune into 14 new language services that they’ve previously not had easy access to.
From August 6, Melbourne and Sydney listeners can tune into a number of new language programs, and more programming hours.
“We know that SBS Radio is a lifeline for many communities. We provide news, current affairs, talkback and entertainment across more than 68 different languages including English,” SBS Managing Director Shaun Brown said.
“Digital Radio means SBS Radio listeners will have more opportunities to engage with the language programs they know and love.
“The entire SBS Radio schedule will be time-shifted across the digital radio network two hours later than the current analogue schedule. This will enable listeners to tune in if they’ve missed their favourite programs or listen at a more convenient time.”
SBS Radio is Australia’s national multilingual radio network – broadcasting across Australia in 68 languages. SBS Radio broadcasts all of the latest news, sports coverage, community information and music from around the world.
