20 June 2008
SBS Radio’s Alchemy program has won two New York Festival Radio Broadcasting Awards for a program looking at the Stolen Generation.
Nominated in the Social Issues category, The Stolen Generation – Alchemy Special beat out a host of entries to make it to the list of final nominees and received a Silver Award at the ceremony held in New York last night.
The program, broadcast during the national apology earlier this year, also won the 2008 New York Festivals United Nations Department of Public Information Silver Award.
The entry was assessed by an international jury of top industry professionals before being awarded the industry gongs.
“This is testament to the quality of programming being produced by SBS Radio,” SBS Director of Radio Paula Masselos said.
“We are unique in the world for the breadth of content that we cover and the range of languages in which we broadcast.
“Alchemy is one of SBS Radio’s most innovative programs targeted at youth. As SBS Radio’s national music, arts and talks program, Alchemy offers a unique take on traditional sounds and stories.
“To be recognised not once but twice by an international jury of broadcasting professionals is testament to the talent of the Alchemy team.
“I congratulate Alchemy Executive Producer Maddy Fryer and the entire Alchemy team on these awards which are due recognition of the talented people who work at SBS Radio.”
