SBS radiothon for Victorian Bushfire Victims
13 February 2009
SBS Radio will hold a Radiothon to help raise money to support the victims of the Victorian bushfires.
Starting tonight (13 February 2009) volunteers will be manning phones in SBS’s Melbourne headquarters taking donations for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund 2009 which is supported by the Victorian and Federal Governments and Red Cross.
“Our experience following the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004 was that the SBS Radio community are incredibly generous and want to do all they can to help ease the pain and suffering of others,” SBS Director of Radio, Paula Masselos, said.
“But sometimes language can act as a barrier to people making donations and this is where SBS Radio can help.
“Our volunteers will be able to offer advice and assistance in-language to callers who want to make a donation to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund.”
The Radiothon will commence tonight at 7pm with the Vietnamese program and continue across the weekend and next week.
Listeners can call SBS’s toll free number 1800 501 931 to make a donation.
