The Danish royal spotlight shines on Australia as SBS broadcasts The Crown Prince Couple’s Awards

Friday 1 November at 8.40pm on SBS ONE

In a night to celebrate all things spectacular about Danish drama, music, entertainment and the arts, and of course featuring “our own Mary”, SBS will be the official broadcaster of The Crown Prince Couple’s Awards.

For the first time in its history, The Crown Prince Couple’s Awards will take place outside Denmark as the Royal couple participate in a Danish-Australian celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House. The awards will be presented in person by HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary at a large-scale televised show where both Danish and Australian artists will perform.

The Danish Crown Prince Couple met in Australia and got married in 2004. To mark this occasion the Danish charity fund, the Bikuben Foundation, established an award ceremony as a wedding present. Since then HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary have annually awarded innovative social projects as well as artists with international potential. The awards include the Crown Prince Couple’s Culture award, Crown Prince Couple’s Social award and two Rising Star awards.

The Crown Prince Couple are visiting Sydney as patrons of the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House. True to tradition the couple will personally present the awards and prize money as they have selected the prize winners based on input from their advisory committee.

Hosted by SBS’s own effervescent Julia Zemiro and Danish TV personality Nikolaj Koppel, the large-scale Danish-Australian award show will be presented from the Sydney Opera House on 28 October with appearances by both award-winning Australian and Danish performers. These outstanding musical acts include much-loved Indigenous singer-songwriter Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu; gritty Aussie rock and blues artist Diesel; Danish singer and previous recipient of the Rising Star award Oh Land; the soulful indie pop Danish sensation MÁ˜ (aka Karen Marie Á˜rsted), and talented violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen.
