SBS-BA Cycling Team the largest in the annual MS Sydney to the Gong Bike Ride
Thursday 7 November, 2013
On Sunday 3 November 10,000 cyclists took part in the annual MS Gong Ride, cycling 90 kilometres from Sydney to Wollongong and raising money for the more than 20,000 Australians living with Multiple Sclerosis.
SBS and Broadcast Australia again partnered to enter the race, and the SBS-BA Cycling Team, with 215 riders, was the largest team in the event for the second year in a row.
SBS Managing Director, Michael Ebeid, said: “Cycling is at the heart of SBS and it is wonderful to be able to combine one of our biggest sports with the passion of our employees to support this incredibly worthy cause. It’s always an honour to be a part of the SBS-BA Cycling team, which puts in a huge fundraising effort each year. It’s also a great opportunity to rally together as colleagues and have a fun day out, whilst making a difference to the lives of people with MS”.
Broadcast Australia Group Chief Executive Officer, Jim Hassell, said: “We were very proud to again join with SBS in the 2013 MS Ride to the Gong. Our employees strongly support this event and put their money where their mouth is: this year the team had 53 extra riders compared with 2012 – a real commitment to the cause. I’m proud of the effort we put in and the money that the riders and their communities have raised to support MS Australia and their efforts.”
SBS-BA Cycling Team captain, Rick Jordan, said: “The MS Gong Ride is a great event supporting a very worthy charity and, being a cycling event, it is a perfect fit for SBS. It was an honour to captain the largest team for 2013, and I am pleased with the SBS-BA fundraising efforts so far. I’m really proud of our riders. It’s not easy to ride 90kms, but everyone rose to the challenge and had a lot of fun — and all for a great cause.”
SBS and BA have together raised over $144,000. The donation website will remain open until 1 December.
