SBS continues partnership with Youth Frontiers

The Hon. Ray Williams – MP, Rebecca Pugh- Newcastle High School, Jan Fran- SBS The Feed presenter SBS VICELAND’s The Feed presenter, Jan Fran hosted the Youth Frontiers Awards ceremony at NSW Parliament House on 21 November. The Youth Frontiers is a mentoring program that encourages young people to use their creativity and passion to make positive changes in their community. 

SBS sponsored the ‘Community Harmony Award’ for projects promoting the value of a multicultural society, challenging racism and prejudice, and celebrating diversity. The three finalists represented regional and rural high schools with projects including homeless food drive and an engagement activity for youth and aged care residents.

Year 9 student, Rebecca Pugh from Newcastle High School was announced the winner for her podcast supporting refugee women in her community to meet other people and learn new skills.   In connection with Zara’s House, an organisation supporting refugee women, Rebecca utilised the podcast to support her passion for working with refugees, and when she finishes school she would like to work overseas for an aid organisation.
     
The SBS Prize includes two-day work experience program and tour of SBS studios, the opportunity to meet SBS news talent, plus tickets to an A-League game.
