Statement from SBS regarding COVID-19 case – 25 March 2020

Insights & articles

SBS newsroom staff have returned to work in the newsroom today, following its temporary closure yesterday afternoon.

After assessing the impact and risks for employees, a small number of staff are now in self-isolation, in line with advice from health officials.

Extensive sanitisation has been undertaken in the newsroom as well as other areas in the building.

In addition to social distancing practices already in place, SBS is taking additional precautionary measures to mitigate future risk by relocating key newsroom staff across other areas of our Sydney office. We are also continuing to support staff in working flexibly wherever possible.

Amid challenging circumstances, we are incredibly proud of the way SBS continued to deliver its essential and comprehensive news and current affairs coverage last night.

We also recognise this has been an unsettling experience for our staff and their loved ones. The health and safety of our people and teams remains our highest priority while also maintaining SBS’s commitment to keeping our audiences informed during this crisis, and will continue to be central to our decision-making over the coming period.
