Statement from SBS regarding Facebook
At a time when trusted, factual and independent news and information is more essential than ever, Facebook has made the decision to suspend sharing news on its platform in Australia.
In particular, SBS is extremely disappointed that Facebook will no longer share critical information about COVID-19 and the vaccine rollout that SBS delivers in English and over 60 other languages. For many, Facebook is their primary source of information and removing trusted news sources like SBS puts people at greater risk of consuming misinformation.
We urge Facebook to reconsider this move and work constructively with SBS and other news providers to ensure ongoing access to news and information for the Australian community.
SBS audiences can continue accessing our news, content and information directly from SBS TV channels, radio, websites, apps and podcasts.
