NITV to broadcast live from historic 50th Koori Knockout carnival
National Indigenous Television (NITV) and SBS will be at the heart of the 50th Koori Knockout series from Friday 30 September to Monday 3 October. Dedicated to league-loving viewers from the beginning, the Koori Knockout is rugby league at its best, now with more than 150 teams across the men’s, women’s and junior tournaments competing for the top prize.
This year marks NITV’s 13th broadcast of the Knockout, with the channel once again the official media partner for the event. This is the first time the popular community-run tournament has happened since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be one of the largest gatherings of Indigenous peoples in Australia.
NITV will bring full day live match coverage of the semi-final clashes on Sunday 2 October, and on Monday 3 October both NITV and SBS will air full day live match coverage of the grand final from 2:30pm to 5.30pm. NITV Online will host two days of coverage on Facebook Live and SBS On Demand on Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October.
Hosting from the grounds are presenters Dan Conifer and Brad Cooke, who will be joined by Djuro Sen on Monday, grand finals day. Also joining the team are ex-NRL players Dean Widders, Timana Tahu and Beau Champion, Over the Black Dot panel member Bo de la Cruz, NRLW Newcastle Knights Head Coach Ronald Griffiths and more.
NITV Channel Manager, Tanya Denning-Orman said: “NITV is thrilled that the Koori Knockout is back for the first time in a number of years, and we are committed to showcasing all tiers of rugby league once again. We are excited to bring our viewers all the action and excitement from the 50th Koori Knockout.
“The Knockout is as much a celebration of sport as it is a modern-day corroboree centred on family, community and local Aboriginal culture.”
Koori Knockout will be hosted at Bomaderry Sporting Complex and Rugby Park in Nowra and is also known by the name of the NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout.
Canterbury Bulldogs winger Josh Addo-Carr is one of many Aboriginal NRL players lining up to play in this year’s Koori Knockout at the end of their season. St George Illawarra Dragons NRL player Tyrell Fuimaono will also play in this year’s tournament.
In supporting coverage, The Point will celebrate the long-awaited return of the Koori Knockout and include interviews with numerous league teams in preparation for the competition. This episode of The Point will premiere on Tuesday 27 September at 7.30pm.
