Praise Be! The Handmaid’s Tale Season Five returns to screens this week

Blessed day. The wait is finally over. Emmy-winning, hit drama series, The Handmaid’s Tale will return for season five this Thursday, September 15th, with new episodes exclusive to SBS and SBS On Demand. The sixth and final instalment of The Handmaid’s Tale will also be coming to SBS and SBS On Demand.

To welcome the new season, SBS will bring Sydneysiders a glimpse of Gilead at Westfield in Pitt Street Mall (opposite Myer) from Monday, September 19th until Sunday, September 25th. Praise be!

In the new season, June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose. The widowed Serena attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. Commander Lawrence works with Nick and Aunt Lydia as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. June, Luke and Moira fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.

The series stars Elisabeth Moss, Bradley Whitford, Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Ann Dowd and Sam Jaeger.

The Handmaid’s Tale is produced by MGM Television and executive produced by Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Eric Tuchman, Yahlin Chang, Rachel Skukert, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark and Kim Todd. The series is internationally distributed by MGM.

SBS will air the double-episode season premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale Season Five at 8.30pm Thursday 15 September. Weekly episodes will follow at 9.30pm on Thursdays from 22 September to 10 November. Episodes will also be fast-tracked to SBS On Demand ahead of broadcast (see below for publish schedule).

An encore will follow each Saturday on SBS Viceland, at 9:30pm following the new and final season of The Good Fight.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season Five will be available to stream on SBS On Demand with subtitling available in both Arabic and Simplified Chinese, following the broadcast.
