Statement from SBS regarding John Paul Janke on ABC’s Insiders program

During Insiders on the ABC on Sunday 6 August, NITV presenter John Paul Janke called out some of the questionable activity that is taking place on social media by those campaigning ‘no’ for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, referring to AI generated videos. Some of these videos using AI have attracted over 85,000 views and his comments highlighted the important discussion needed around the nature of such campaign techniques.

On NITV and through our coverage across the SBS network, we’re focused on ensuring all Australians have access to accurate news and information during this debate, which includes countering misinformation and disinformation. We support John Paul for continuing to raise awareness and understanding of the nature of what he and the NITV team are seeing and experiencing on social media, and the impact of this on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
