Statement from SBS on the passing of Gerald Stone AM

SBS is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of its former Deputy Chairman, Gerald Stone AM. 

Mr Stone served on the SBS Board for a decade (2000-2010), drawing generously on his extensive media industry experience to help steer the organisation during a time of great change for the sector.

During his tenure, Mr Stone, along with his fellow Board members, oversaw fundamental moments in SBS’s 45-year history. He was a passionate advocate for SBS, its purpose and unique role in the media landscape, including through its news and current affairs offering.

Gerald will be remembered as an extraordinary journalist and a legend in Australian media. He was a well-respected member of the SBS Board and his input was valued enormously.

SBS passes on its deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this time.
