As a member of SBS’s unscripted commissioning team, Bernadine works across SBS’s slate of distinctive commissioned documentaries, championing diverse stories and exploring issues impacting contemporary Australia.

Born in Malaysia, she began her career as a journalist in New Zealand and has over 20 years’ directing and producing experience. She’s created content for public, commercial and subscription networks including SBS, National Geographic, BSkyB, Discovery International, BBC World, TVNZ, TV3, Network 10 and NBC Universal. Her work has received numerous awards including Gold at the New York Festivals Film and TV awards, and a nomination for an Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts (AACTA) Award for Best Direction in a Documentary.

She was formally the Head of Documentary at Screen Australia where she led the unit providing support through development and production funding across all factual formats including features, television, online and XR.

She re-joined SBS in 2021, having previously spent five years as Executive Producer of the international current affairs SBS series, Dateline, commissioning close to 100 films which received multiple awards, including a BAFTA.
