NITV will be programming a celebratory week of series especially for Jarjums to enjoy, to mark National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day on Tuesday 4 August 2020.

Jarjums is our programming dedicated to children on NITV with fun and educational Indigenous and First Nations content from Australia and around the world.

Last month, Jarjums got refreshed ahead of Children’s Day to create a space where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids feel at home seeing themselves, hearing stories from other kids, and celebrating culture.

The new mascots of the Jarjums – the Papas –  pay homage to Tennant Creek Artist, Dion Beasley who created the first Cheeky Dog incarnation back in NITV limited days.

Some highlights to look out that are classroom friendly or can be recorded as catch up:

  • Coyote Crazy (every day at 6:30am, Monday to Friday 4:05 pm AEST)
  • Molly of Denali (every day at 7:30 am AEST)
  • Bushwhacked (Monday to Friday 3:30pm AEST)
  • Raven’s Quest (Monday to Friday 3:55pm AEST)

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is a time for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities to celebrate the strengths and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

This year’s theme: ‘We are the Elders of tomorrow, hear our voice’ honours Elders – custodians of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional knowledge, passed down to children through stories and cultural practice.

How can you celebrate Children’s Day in the classroom? Visit SNAICC for ideas to hold in-person or online events.

So keep an eye out for the Papas as they take you on a journey through this special week!

Jarjums airs on NITV (Channel 34) from 6am to 10am every day and Monday to Friday 3pm to 5pm.
