Exploring Australian Narratives

Source: Brindle Films

Delve into narratives of Australia's history, seeing colonisation from an Indigenous perspective. Trisha Morton-Thomas's documentary Occupation: Native uses a range of approaches - some serious, some humourous - to present experiences and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Using clips and themes from the film, this teacher resource includes:

  • In-depth notes and discussion guides;
  • Short clips selected specifically for classroom viewing;
  • Supporting materials and further references;
  • Ways-in to conversations around contemporary issues, for example January 26 / Australia Day.

Caution: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that SBS Learn materials may contain images, audio visual materials and/or the names of people who have died.
