This teacher resource explores reconciliation, repatriation and returning artefacts to Country. Based on an episode from NITV’s flagship current affairs program, Living Black, this resource will enable students to reflect on what happens when ancient objects are discovered in our own backyards; should they be placed back on Country? Or, put on display for reconciliation and education? Guide your students’ learning about Aboriginal artefacts, and related context and protocols. This resource includes:

  • Short, classroom-ready clips from Living Black;
  • Discussion questions;
  • Reflection exercises to promote deep thinking;
  • Expert guidance on protocols;
  • Quality additional resources.

Caution: SBS Learn would like to advise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that this resource may contain images, audio visual materials and/or the names of people who have died.

SBS Learn provides free Australian Curriculum aligned digital learning resources for teachers and educators. We create a wide range of printable and downloadable lesson plans for students.

We recommend you pre-screen the full-length episode before using in class. Head to SBS On Demand for personal viewing. For classroom viewing of whole episodes, please visit ClickView, or your school’s resource centre (for example Wingaru, Informit etc).
